Alton Steel is a special bar quality mill with production facilities in Alton, IL (just north of St. Louis).

Established in 2003, the company purchased many of the production assets of the former Laclede Steel Company. Our facility operates a 225 ton electric arc furnace that, in conjunction with our EMCI Ladle Furnace is capable of producing more than 400,000 tons of high quality SBQ steel annually. Our six-strand continuous caster produces slabs and 7” square blooms that are rolled into other semi-finished billets and round bar.

Our updated 14” rolling mill produces bar ROUNDS from 7/8” to 3-½” diameters with a rolling schedule that cycles every 4 weeks. These sizes are produced in a wide variety of carbon grades including 10xx series steels, re-sulpherized 11xx series, 15xx series, 40xx series, 41xx series, 51xx series, 86xx series as well as specific physical grades including A36, A105, A615 Gr 40-75 and A572 Gr 50-55.
